Ello, I have a problem with my new laptop.

Normally, when i have the laptop plugged into the mains, the screen is lighter than when it's just running off the battery. When just running off the battery the screen is distinctly duller. I presume this is to save power, and that's fine.

However, since the weekend the screen has been duller whether plugged into the mains or not, and I'm wondering what's wrong.

some laptops have an option in the powersaving options to control this. my toshiba has a slider where you can control the brightness of the screen regardless of whether it's plugged into the mains or not.

the option for dimming the lcd may be in the bios setup utility. i've certainly seen it hiding in their on an advent one i was fiddling with recently.

what laptop to you have, by the way?

example of power management controls found in control panel - is it possible these or something like this has become adjusted?
