Since getting Firefox, my computer has decided to block several websites, such as Google search, and my sister told me sclubbers.co.uk but not sclubbers.com. What's going on?

I just tried accesing "sclubbers.co.uk" with both Firefox and IE, neither bring up anything but a blank page.

Google.com is working fine for me.

How odd, my laptop (Firefox 1.0) says google.co.uk cannot be found, but google.com can. My PC (Firefox 1.0) See google.co.uk and .com without a problem.

How come that when I type in http://www.google.com on anything from Safari to IE for Mac, it just sends it to http://www.google.co.uk?

It never used to, and it's really quite annoying. Is this a general thing Google have started doing, or am I at fault?

Yes, it has. A virus took it out, IIRC it was MSBlast.

This happens to me too, but if you follow the link at the bottom of Google.co.uk where it says "go to Google.com", it has a link to http://www.google.com/ncr where it then diverts you to Google.com and continues to do so. Both IE6 and FireFox 1.0

If you click the "Go to Google.com" link on Google.co.uk it will remember your preference.

It's localising all it's users to improve results. Why is it annoying anyhow? what advantage does .com give when the default on .co.uk is to search like .com

On the subject of google though...

Annoying is probably the wrong word... but I know consciously that if I want to go to Google.com then I'll type that in, likewise if I type in Google.co.uk -- I don't want a computer trying to second guess me.

It's like CNN.com when it frequently redirects you to CNN.com/International, because you have to choose your edition from a popup that appears... and having pop-up windows turned off, I keep missing it.

Yes, it's general. And I like it. HOWEVER, it's very irritating here in Mexico because it redirects to google.com.mx - what a waste of time!
