Actually, not really 'etc.' at all, just added in for the recognition that this thread will likely stray wildly off topic at some point.

Over the past year I have started reading books for pleasure again.

Not sure when I stopped - some time in my high school years, most likely, when endless shite from the National Curriculum was forced upon us - but I know for sure I have started again.

I am just getting to the end of 'The Secret History', by Donna Tartt. Definitely one of the best books I've ever read. The next book I've got lined up is 'The Five People You Meet In Heaven', which seems to be fantastic. But that will take me less than a week to read, so I am after more suggestions.

Anyone care to share a list of their favourites, to give me some ideas as to what I should go and buy?

Read Dickens' Hard Times and Trollope's The Way We Live Now, and then try and remember why you've done a journalism degree.

I haven't done a journalism degree, but if I had I would say 'Ok'.

Does anyone know if 'Johnathan Strange & Mr Norrel' (sp) by Susanna Clarke is any good? I know they are calling it the 'adult Harry Potter' but finding that hard to believe.

I got 'Angels & Demons' and 'Deception Point' for my brother for Christmas.

The Da Vinci Code is a fab read, even though it does stretch the truth a little/lot (depending on your viewpoint).

Da Vinci Code is so great! So good in fact that I bought Angels and Demons, Deception Point and Digital Fortress - well all of his books actually!
Must say that Deception Point is the best in my opinion. Angels and Demons good with ambigrams etc. anyhoo I'm trailing off.

May 19, 2006 is the release date for The Da Vinci Code at the cinemas (in America most probably) starring Tom Hanks.

Already read the Da Vinci Code, and Angels and Demons... not read the rest yet.

Off to Paris on Monday, as it happens. Entirely unrelated to the Da Vinci code, which is basically full of rubbish, but I shall venture once again to the Louvre.

And before anyone suggests Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings... read all of those too.

I have The Life of Pi to read. I want to read Lord of the Flies but I havn't got round to that yet.

One of my favourite's has to be The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole, aged 13 and 3 Quarters.

I don't often read for pleasure, but maybe I'll grow into it when I get older.

Oh I though this was going to be a rant thread about that particular book chain. I'm very dissapointed

Lord Of The Flies is a dreadful book in my opinion. Except at the end where Piggy goes *splat*.

I'm currently enjoying Bill Bryson's Short History Of Nearly Everything. A very interesting as well as entertaining read.

I did actually buy Angels & Demons, Deception Point and Digital Fortress all together after I had read The Da Vinci Code

Can't wait for the movie!
