Hi Guys,

Just been setting up a mates new PC, and it only came with an American power lead. It works with an adapter thing - is it safe, because I guess it isn't earthed?

Excuse me for being a numpty…

most electrical things like this are double insulated, so it's quite safe. if the monitor lead has a kettle type plug on the other end, you should be able to get a lead with the proper uk style 13amp plug fitting from your local pc world for a few quid if you're still worrying about it.

Monitors usually do require an earth. Every one I've seen supplied with an American cable has been an earthed plug (does it have 3 pins?). If the UK adaptor was supplied in the box then you should have no problems.

If you're at all concerned, then as Siggy said ordinary leads with a UK BS1363 plug on the end of them are available for only a few quid.
