Hey
Having probs at the moment. No icons seem to be appearing next to the time in the bottom right hand corner - none whatsoever. I've tried everything to get them back. For some reason, in the "Taskbar Properties" window, I can see a setting for the icons.

All I need to do is click customize and get them back. However, the complete setting has been grayed out. I can't find "systray" in the startup process box, but I can find it in System32. I've also downloaded TweakUI which seems to be a pile of tripe - no settings from what I can see at the moment to get the icons back. Is there a magical setting in there?

I think its part of a virus/worm. We've had a lot lately, since we switched to the windows firewall from SP2. :x

I've heard of a few other people who have the same problem in the US. That's why Ive set up a mini-poll, just to see if this has happened to you.

I'd be really appreciated if somebody could come up with a few ways to sort this out - its been bugging me for weeks.

Cheers

Quite why this needs a poll is beyond me.

Systray is a Windows 9x feature, it's not used in Windows XP but I think it's there for backwards compatibility for one reason or another.

What's probably happened is the system policies built into Windows.

Check your taskbar settings. Sometimes it can be set to hide icons not used frequently. You should normally be able to view them if you click the arrow button on your taskbar. If there is no arrow button, then you should check for any newly installed software, it may be malicious.
