Windows XP Welcome Screen

Hello my geeky friends!

OK, I'm rather bored of having the current light-blue 'Welcome' screen everytime I start-up or log out of Windows, and I was wondering how do I change the blue background?

Is it a BMP file somewhere where the user icons are overlayed onto it (thus creating this: http://www.petri.co.il/images/xp_welcome_screen.jpg ), or is it impossible to change this screen to something a little more interesting?

If anyone knows, please do tell me!

Give logon studio a try: http://www.stardock.com/products/logons ... nload.html

i have no idea if this works with windows sp2 or not, so be careful and create a system restore restore point before you fiddle and keep copies of \windows\system32\logonui.exe before you get your creative juices flowing.

Or you can have the normal 'press ctrl-alt-delete' logon screen and change the background wallpaper to anything you like. Much easier and safer than hacking all these system files.

Nah, I don't want to go back to Windows 98-esque rubbish. I've got Windows Blinds installed, and my browser, folders, icons and toolbar are now a very cool deep navy blue, so I want my Logon Screen to resemble my new-look computer theme!

Sad, I know - but I'm a self-confessed geek (minus the spots, glasses, voice and lack of sex)

The Screensavers (a show on the US cable channel G4TechTV) has a short video tutorial
on how to hack your Windows XP welcome screen. Click a link below to watch the video.
