I'm having a similar problem, but with me it crops up every now and again when it feels like it. If I close down IE and start it up again, the normal JPG file name things usually reappear, but not always.

You could try clearing your cache - this is known to happen when the cache is full or the index.dat file is corrupted.
If the worst comes to the worst, then you may try reinstalling IE.

Or get firefox. It really is the best (computer related) thing I've done. Its so much better and only takes a few days to get used to.

Well if you want to clean out the index.dat log in as another admin (in XP/2000) user and then go into your C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\local settings folder and just delete the Temp, Temporary Internet Files and History folders all together.
They'll get remade ncie and clean when you log back in as you/
