Clubbing

not seal clubbing, but night clubbing.
now, on a friday or saturaday night, a nice way to unwind is to pop down my favourite drinking pit (the globe) and have a few quiet beers with my mates or gf. when it closes at mid-night, we generally get a bite to eat and make our way home.
what i cannot understand is the culture of getting totally wankered, and then heading off to some noisy (where you can't hear yourself speak, let alone the person next to you) club, where you pay over inflated prices for drinks, just to have a 'dance' (which lets face, usually involves bobing up and down, with a bottle in one and a fag in the other), it seems a total waste of time and money to me, and half he people that go seem past it anyway. (mutton dressed as lamb, if you will)
don't get me wrong, i'm not a hermit at all, in fact, i barely spend a night in these days, i enjoy having a good conversation with people, but i don't feel the need to get drunk or off my face on pills to do it.
i ask the other patrons of this forum, are you a fan of 'clubbing', and if you are, what do you get out of it, and why do you go?

Not a fan to be honest - agree very much with your sentiments...
As you say, there's plenty of people who are mutton dressed as lamb but there are also so many people who when I was leaving school from the sixth form were in year 7 and are now out.
Maybe it's just me getting old (can't believe I'm saying that at 22), but would much prefer sitting in a pub/bar with mates having a few drinks.
Don't get me wrong, I've been to plenty of clubs - and have enjoyed going to them in the past, but that's only through being with the right people and not quite being paralytic.
So yes, I can understand the attraction (and one of my mates positively enjoys going for 'fun' with the young ones and sometimes the older ones...) and bizarre and funny things can happen - like people getting together who you never thought would - but, on the whole, more a miss than a hit with me.

Agreed!
I've always preferred an evening in the pub to a night in a club. They're always obscenely expensive, and invariably full of twats. I went to a place in Newquay when I was on holiday in Cornwall the other week. Jesus Christ.
I suppose if they're playing exceptional music it can be fun, but there don't seem to many places now apart from drum 'n' bass/r 'n' b or places that play Chesney Hawkes' "I am the One and Only" or the theme music to the A-Team, inexplicably.

Much prefer the pub. Why pay twice as much for a drink and not be able to have a conversation?
Don't get me wrong - I do like clubbing and do partake in it and "the scene" (love that phrase!!) every so often but you can't beat the pub. Especially when there's a good quiz on.

Agreed, people go on about going clubbing in Warrington all of the time and I really don't see what the fuss is about, if you want to get drunk, pop down your local, I would anyday rather have a drink with a few friends, its nicer, calmer and you can just talk and take your time.

Really depends which clubs you go to.
There are some right hell holes, and I agree about prices... but there are some genuinely nice clubs where you can sit and have a conversation, get served quickly, and dance all in the same building.
Maybe you aren't a good dancer, Dr., and so you are reluctant to show off your moves on the dancefloor as a result.
No?

I went last night.
£5 to get in to the place
drinks were a wallet-whacking £2.50 a pint.
I only go clubbing because it's such a laugh! By 1am everyone is off their faces and most of the girls grab you if you walk past and shove their tongue down your throat. I find it very very funny!
I only spent £20 last night and had a good night!
