I'm trying to re-capture my love of this game (Theme Hospital) - after finding the CD case but no CD, I downloaded it from the web.

I originally installed it through the windows set-up, but for some reason it starts to load (the holding screen appears) and then makes my whole computer system re-start. I've tried changing the compatability mode to Win 95 AND Win 98/ME, but neither makes a difference and the computer crashes/restarts.

So I then installed it through DOS - brill, it works! Only problem is configuring the sound properly. I can get the SFX (have selected my sound card through a DOS sound set-up), I don't get the music, even though the same sound card is selected it can never "find" the card when told to do so automatically. I'm not sure what the settings are, so cannot find it manually.

Does anyone have any ideas?

AH, I remember this, the files should be on the HD.

I remember that I had to pick some obscure sounding "generic" thing to get music to play both in Theme Park and Theme Hospital. It wouldn't do it with anything else. Look for something along the lines of MT32, General or Roland Synthesizer. In fact go through them all and try them.

FYI, there is also a patch for Theme Hospital which sorts a few things out too. Also watch out for the disappearing doors bug which happens randomly and the only way back out of it is to restart the level (an option only added with the patch) or reload the last auto save assuming it hasn't happened before you notice.

I still have that game on CD, not very good, talking of stuff like that the sims 2 is out soon!
