I tried it by putting the system disc in but now I am left with two operatng systems with all of my old files on the new operating system as well.
Hope you can help
Thank you

Um, okay...
You installed it into a new folder and now you have two installations of Windows on your disk, one at C:\windows and the other at somewhere else? Is that what you're saying?

Instead of inserting the OS disc in Windows; you need to restart your computer and then insert the disc. Make sure that in the BIOS you set it to boot from the CD drive before the hard drive, and then just wait.
If it says "Press any key to boot from CD...", press any key; otherwise it should just go into setup (a bluish screen) automatically. It may tell you that there's already a version of windows installed and ask if you want to repair it, ignore the message and proceed to install a new version of windows.
When you're presented with this option, make sure you choose the "Format the partition using the NTFS file system". It'll also have an option such as "Leave the file system intact" (which I know isn't on the above screenshot), you don't want that as it'll just leave you with a dual boot as you had before. You also don't want to select the Quick option, as it doesn't format the drive properly and has caused me problems in the past.
Once it's done formatting and copying setup files, you'll be rebooted into graphical setup which you will probably recognise from when you tried to format before.
