Since things are a little quiet on here....

Does anyone know how you pronounce the place Bicester?

Seen it for the first time today and thought it was a little strange.

you could turn this into a competition really.

Easy one to start with. Placename near Morpeth in Nortnthumberland
"Ulgham"

No idea, but I'd go for "Ull-um".

Towcester's a nice one - could be "Toaster" OR "Tow-cester" OR "Tau-ster" OR even "Tau-chester".

Any suggestions for the village I used to live in, St. Briavels?

Pure guesswork here - is it St Brav-ulls?

Sort of. I've heard it called that... but the most common method is St. Brevels, like the sandwich maker. It was always good fun spelling out my address over the phone though... "St. Briavels, Lydney, Gloucestershire..." I often even got letters addressed to "Glostershire", for goodness sake.
