FTP Transfering

Hey there,

Just a quick question really - have webspace with a few galleries of pics on there and I use Ace FTP Freeware to upload it to the webspace.

For some reason it always uploads file extentions IN CAPITALS, it's v annoying because for some reason my server is CaSe SeNsItIvE, meaning that there are broken links if capitals are used anywhere...

Any advice would be much appreciated!

This is usually a Windows thing if not a graphics program thing.

The program may usually, for reasons best known to itself, save files with a capitalised extension. That is, "picture.JPG". Windows will then complicate issues by displaying the file as "picture.jpg" in all explorer windows and everywhere else you use the file in Windows.

Then of course, only when you try to upload, you notice this abnormality. And most if not all unix servers are case sensitive, BTW.

You can always rename the extension to lower capitalisation later when its on the server, or look for an option in your FTP client to transfer all files as lower case. I know that WS_FTP LE has such an option, I don't know about the client which you mention though. Note though that using this may result in some software that uses capitalised files (such as Invision Power Board) inadvertedly breaking.

I have the same problem when I use SmartFTP.

Luckily it's only a few files at a time so easy enough to rename manually.
