Just done a scan on AVG Anti Virus program and shocked to see that I had 8 viruses but even more shocked that I couldn't repair them or wouldn't let me repair them.
The infected files which are all trojan horse DLLfiles plonked around various folders. If the Virus checker won't let me delete them using the program, is it possible to find the files in the places they say and delete them manually. Will it do any harm? The virus checker kicks in when I go to the folder in question and asks if I would like to still go into the folder (yes / no or heal)
If I click on Heal then the virus disapears on screen but I'm assuming it's still there.

I'm going to try a copy of the Norton proggy that someone is going to get for me and see if that works in eliminating the viruses.
Until then, nobody else got any ideas?

The worst thing for me is that when I bring up the task manager, I see that it's trying to run different programs or attempting to. Fortunately my firewall kicks in and blocks any attempt to go out.
But hopefully my mate will get Norton, not of the Graham variety, I don't know want it to shout out "cock" every time it finds a new virus

If you can, make a note of the names of the viruses/trojans etc, and use another PC to search for and download deletion tools from Symantec's or AVG's websites. Copy them on to floppies and go from there. I'd remove all modems from your pc until your 'clear', just to prevent the spread.

If you go to http://www.pandasoftware.com you can have a free online virus scan that does actually work - no restrictions etc. I use it every week as well as Norton, and on occasions it has found things Norton Hasnt.

Lol I don't give a damn if I get one and it spreads. The main objective for me is get it out. There's no point in pussy footing around the virus to remove it - direct action. Do online scans, type error messages and symptons into Google and you will find a cure.
If it's an e-mail related virus that's going to send out masses of e-mail from your address book or what not - then chances are it's probably done it already when it came in, so damage done.
lol infact now I've said that - the virus could well have started spreading already, I doubt you'd ever know.
