HI i've got a second generation (slot loading) iMac and i've just ordered a brand spanking new iBook (12.1" cd-rw/dvd). I was wondering, is their anyway to connect the computers so I can share files?
Thanx,
Chris Turnbull, HBK

				Hi Chris,
It is possible if you can satisfy the following:
1. You have a network card built-in to both computers - you can tell this by finding a little square socket that looks like this:
Do not confuse it with the modem socket, which is smaller.
2. Purchase a crossover network cable (or if you want to expand, a hub or swich and some ordinary network cables) - a shop like PC World (or any other computer shop) should sell these.
3. Plug the cable into the two computers.
4. Now it's time for the MacOS X expert to take over...

Yes, the Ethernet port is what you should plug your network cable into.

Before you go to Dixons and pay £10 pounds for a 3M Crossover cable, have a lookie here:

And why would we touch a company - whose knowledge of punctuation equals that of a 3-day dead goat - with a bargepole (CPU's)?
Mind you, just shows how much you get ripped off.

Connecting a laptop & notebook PC

I've got a laptop and a notebook PC - laptop with WinXP and the notebook Win2K. Is there any way of linking these together? Both have Ethernet sockets if this helps. The laptop is connected to my uni network but I want to allow the notebook to get on the net too.
Secondly, how could I set up a home network so the laptop and my home desktop PC could both use the Freeserve Broadband connection?

May I suggest searching before engaging post?
Both questions have been answered in this forum, in particular at
