Tesco will have done their research. They will understand what a consumer is likely to do if their preferred brand/size is not available, quite intrinsically, based on their Clubcard data. That doesn't mean it is impossible for them to make a bad decision (see scrapping New Covent Garden soups entirely in favour of a proprietary brand), but they also know that if they need to, they'll be able to reverse their decision and have it effective in stores within days.

Are you sure? I've been in one Scottish large store and two Locals this week, all with decent stocks of the 10p orange bag-for-life (with squirrel design) available in various places. If they were to discontinue it, what would they replace all the existing bags out there with when they wear out?

Yeah, the more likely scenario is that they were simply sold out.

To answer scottishtv's reply. I was told by an employee they'd been discontinued.

I see that Tesco has stopped price matching on own brand goods as of today, replacing "Tesco Price Promise" with "Tesco Brand Guarantee"... which is, to my mind, a slightly confusing name for something that doesn't cover Tesco brand items.

Since Morrisons is also giving up on price matching, doesn't that leave only Asda as price matching non-branded items?

I was in Skegness last week and saw something very unusual- an Asda petrol station, and literally just a petrol station, no supermarket attatched to it. There was a usual petrol station shop attatched to it, and there was a click & collect bit, but it's the only time I've ever seen an Asda petrol station by itself. It's clearly very new, as it has the Wal-Marted Asda logo on it, which isn't even on the new Asda petrol station in Sutton-In-Ashfield. Sadly no photo as I was driving at the time.

I thought that was a weird omission. I guess it might be to keep it consistent with the store.

Sheffield Handsworth is getting a pay at pump only filling station, which I'm delighted about as the fuel in Sheffield is generally 2 or 3p per litre more than Asda's national cap.

Hyson Green is also getting it's Petrol Station rebuilt - I don't know if it'll get a 'proper' shop, remain a drive thru or become pay at pump only.
