The 1D barcode won't scan on older tills.
Also, any store that does contactless will take Apple Pay Pay, whether they say so or not (I may be misunderstanding your point, though). I do notice that the Morrisons card readers have the Apple Pay logo next to them, which a number of staff were discussing excitedly.

Wilkinson have changed their prompt to "present card or Apple Pay device". The whole thing seems like rather a faff when compared to a Barclaycard PayTag, I must say.

The Clubcard app suggests it only works on older tills - I do remember trying in the past and it failing so I don't hold out much hope.

My point was that because Tesco do not widely support contactless, Apple Pay is unusable. It works perfectly at the Edinburgh store that does have contactless!

I see the Sainsbury's 5p carrier bags are now orange, and look much better than the white bags with the purrfect cat design they had.

Is this a Scottish product as I've never seen the 5p bags in England? There are the 10p large Bag for Life ones for sale down here.
If so, those 5p ones may be introduced in England when the bag charge becomes law in October.

They were actually designed and implemented in time for the Welsh scheme a few years ago, and have since been rolled out to Scotland, NI and shortly England. They are 5p Bags for Life - bravo to JS for bothering, every other supermarket is still charging 5p for their standard bag.

That explains the return to orange. As WillPS says, the thin orange 'free' carriers were removed from stores when the carrier bag charge was introduced and a 5p white carrier was introduced, although it would be replaced for free when worn out - in the bag for life style. It's this 5p carrier that is now being redesigned to the more traditional orange. I assume they kept them different during the transition/rollout period in the different nations. I also suspect the thin orange bags will be no more completely soon. You can still buy the larger 10p bags for life should you wish.

Well, they've gone and done it (at my local branch of Tesco, anyway).
It seems to have coincided with a general update to the self-service machine's software, with a slightly different starting screen pushing Clubcard.
Notes:
- The voice is noticeably quieter than the previous one.
- PayQwik has gone as an option for payment (presumably as it doesn't work at my branch).
- The phrase "Thank you for shopping at Tesco" follows each transaction, as opposed to silence.
- It was all a bit cheesy for my liking.

Yeah I noticed today in Liverpool Tesco Metro it was a male voiceover on the self service tills. He also said something about "your club card points have been added to your current total"

I had it at Tesco Extra last week. There was no bleeping while scanning which I found annoying.
Otherwise it's an improvement on the previous version of the self-scan software.

The barcode scanner itself produces that noise, I believe.
