The nearest Woolies to where my parents live closed today, but as almost every other shop in that town was shut, I didn't go there so don't know if the shelves were stripped bare, or even purchased by willing customers.

The Woolies in York city centre closed in January, I called in there on the last day before it shut and it was essentially empty.

I'm not sure it was January, but it DID certainly close earlier than expected, before news of Woolies' troubles arrived.

Never mind, Cadbury sell the 1kg bars through their gifts site along with a 5kg bar which, even though it is a heady £32, I hope isn't a seasonal thing.

And for whatever reason you can now maintain your memories of youth by stockpiling Wispa bars at £22.50 for 48 bars.

I actually would have included Adams in my list if it hadn't been for the fact I thought it had already gone bust. My local branch closed about 6 months ago having been there for at least 20 years.

It seems a number of branches have been closed in the past year. The branch in my town, and the nearest city to me were both closed within the last year. Both have found a new temporary life as home to Christmas stores.

Ours was part of a shopping centre which revamped during this year and had to close several outlets during the makeover... many companies, including Adams, took advantage and decided not to return, leaving the once packed centre with a Jessops, Wilkinson, Topshop, Claires & Woolworths...

Talking of which, the Peacocks in that centre has closed... maybe they are in a bit of trouble?

Same in Warrington's Golden Square, although our Adams' shut a few years ago, with the 1980's logo left burned on, it's only been home to temporary christmas shops in the meantime, it's a gadgety shop at the moment.

Shame to see Woolies shutting, our nearest one is closing on the 5th January, but the last time I went in, it should have been closed then, there was virtually nothing left, although I say to myself it's the last time I'll go in there, it usually isn't. They've even had the courage to put notices up in the Windows asking customers to be patient and that their staff will not tolerate any kind of abuse.
