Don't forget that Mansfield actually has 2 Tesco Extras!

I'm sure Newport could lose a few. Four Extras, six Expresses within a 10 mile radius.

Asda can't keep people out the door ;) I don't remember Asda building any Hyperstore in recent years but there have been very good at upgrading or expanding current store, which makes better since.

I'm sure they could close a few in Liverpool city centre, seems to be one on every corner there.

From that list it appears the only one they're closing in the city centre is Liverpool Kensington on Prescot Street.

Slightly surprised by the Bootle Metro closing, I have some relatives who will be affected by that. The move from the quite cramped store on the ground floor (which still had its original 80s signage before the 'Metro' sub-branding came in - and is now a Wilko) to the old Kwik Save/Somerfield store was an improvement, but I wonder if being so tucked away at the back of the upper floor made it less convenient to get to. The Strand has been in decline for some time though - the M&S becoming an outlet didn't help.

Not surprised in the slightest about Devizes. We have to drive past it to go to a decent Tesco in Trowbridge.

The once we used it for a click and collect, they kept us hanging around for the best part of an hour while, first, they'd lost the click and collect guy and took ages to find him, then second, he'd lost his keys to the storeroom and he took ages to find them. We, serioulsy, could have driven to Trowbridge and back and collected from there quicker. Whenever we do click and collect at Trowbridge, we're in and out in about five minutes.

My friend used to work at Tesco Homeplus in Southampton. According to him it was always quiet, even during the Christmas season.

Kirkcaldy Tesco is busy and always had ques at checkouts etc If such a busy store which is not even that big compared to many bigger store is losing money Tesco is clearly in trouble. I would expect futher store closures in due course.

Fife has never been a Tesco area, its tried to be but its more an Asda and Aldi area. Tesco has pulled its plans for a bigger store in Cuper and a brand new store in Glenrothes, which has peed off alot of locals since there knock down other stuff etc, Heck the New Tesco's in Dunfermline only opened ( after 8 years in the waiting) back in Novmeber because if it didnt it would face a pretty big fine.

Here is a strange one, Tesco moved out of its smallish Falkirk store a year ago, in the town centre to 2 new store, one behide polment prizon and the other at the shieff court. B&M has moved into the old store but it seems Tesco still owns it and are just leasing it out.

I take it Tesco will still own all the empty until and just rent them out?

*If* they own it; then yes, they'll probably hold on to it.

Here's an interesting one: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-no ... e-12179723 - tl;dr, Medium sized shop opened by Tesco in the 70; closed in the 80s. Now once again home to (one of about 850 of the city's branches of) Tesco Express. Owned by Tesco all along.

I noticed on Channel 4 News' report yesterday that Doncaster seems to have already lost its Tesco signage - did it just fall off recently or was it taken down anticipating filming?

Is that then all the Homeplus stores?
No, half of them. There is another one in Bristol plus one in Nottingham/Netherfield. Not sure where the remaining 4 are.
