Call me old fashioned but I don't understand why you'd need wifi when you are doing your shopping anyway? Unless you were planning a #livefromtesco tweetathon, in which case carry on.

My old local store was bit of a Faraday cage, which meant I couldn't get any 3G signal in there at all. WiFi was quite handy for looking up recipes when I'd forgotten to bring my shopping list with me.

Bank Machine have updated my local ATM software this week, possibly before it's integrated into the Co-op ATMS.

You now have five options for withdrawal. £10, £20, £30, £40 on the left column and on the bottom right hand side 'Any Other Amount'

This allows for larger withdrawals, which had been an issue previously.

Oh you would be surprised! Where I work we have free WIFI and someone who had booked in a Wake wanted to know if we had free WIFI and would it be working! We enquired if maybe they were planning on perhaps having a Skype session with some family who could not make it to the funeral/wake but no... it was so the guy could do some work! We felt like saying "so has the crem got free WIFI then so you can work during the service!" LOL! Anyway we said we had free WIFI then when they arrived, turned it off! He asked for the code and we gave it to him then comes back saying it's not working, we said oh maybe there is a fault, we'll reboot it (which we didn't) and then went back and said it's offline at the moment!

What's the point offering free wifi if you turn it off when a customer wants to use it?

People seem to take free WIFI for granted in all public spaces nowadays, regardless of purpose. It astonishes and depresses me with equal measure - the speed at which society has changed to incorporate this moronic, obsessive need to be continually connected to each other while also feeling anger towards those who criticise and demean places which havent the resources or the inclination to keep up with a perceived irrelevance. Do you expect WIFI in Wetherspoons or Starbucks or a hotel? Yes. In a small independent coffee shop in the middle of Middle England? Probably not. Do you expect WIFI on long-distance interCity railway services? Yes. On a commuter wagon that barely has eight wheels and an engine? Probably not. It's like putting a car alarm on a skip.

They're also pulling out of 49 stores that they were due t build that they now "simply cannot afford". As @dresserman points out on twitter, where were the costings for these stores? You sort of wonder whether there was expansion for the sake of expansion.

I take it the Tesco Extra in Cambridge which was mothballed will never open?

I think Tesco should now be forced to sell off its land if there cant build.

It'll be interesting to see what happens with those two Tesco Extras that weren't. JS have also stopped/slowed opening stores; are Asda still opening hypermarkets?

For my mind they'll either be divided in to units or knocked down, which seems wasteful to the extreme.

Anybody wanting to place bets on which stores will close?

Top Valley, Bulwell and Hucknall all have Tesco Extras which you could walk between in an hour or so. Toton and Long Eaton are even closer. I doubt any of them are unprofitable though.

In terms of Express stores, there's one in Sheffield on a road with almost no road traffic and very little footfall - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/She ... CG8Q_BIwCg - it always seems dead to me. I note a load of planned Tesco Extras are now planned to open as One Stops; perhaps these will be similarly converted?
