Charity Beatbullying also pinpointed Bebo and Microsoft’s instant messaging service as hotspots for bullying.

Bebo, which is owned by AOL and the site of choice for schoolchildren, had been nicknamed ‘bullybo’ due to the amount of complaints it has received.

Beatbullying polled 2,094 young people across England and found nearly a third (30 per cent) of 11 to 16-year-olds who had been ‘cyberbullied’ had been targeted on Bebo.

I note the poll includes 11 & 12 year olds despite the terms of Bebo (and Facebook) clearly stating you have to be 13 years or older to use their service (though that's frequently ignored).

I won't click it, they don't deserve the ad revenue. I do however notice that she tends to write her vitriolic piece a few days AFTER something has ceased to be topical or of interest to anyone.

Press Complaints Commission REJECTS complaints over Jan Moir's Gately article

The Press Complaints Commission has rejected a complaint from the partner of Stephen Gately, the Boyzone singer who died suddenly in October, over an article by the Daily Mail columnist Jan Moir.

The PCC received more than 25,000 complaints, a record number, after Moir wrote about Gately's death, describing events leading up to it as "sleazy" and "less than respectable".

The article, published on 16 October, six days after Gately's death, provoked outrage, with many readers expressing their anger on Facebook and Twitter. Gately's record company, Polydor, also complained.

In a ruling, the commission said it was "uncomfortable with the tenor of the columnist's remarks" but that censuring Moir, and the paper, would represent "a slide towards censorship". It added: "Argument and debate are working parts of an active society and should not be constrained unnecessarily."

Shameful simply shameful response

Is it just me that doesn't understand why the press isn't regulated by (or at least subject to the same standards as set down by) OFCOM? I've always been of the position (I might have mentioned already!) that seeing something nasty printed about you or someone you're close to is far worse than it being in the fleeting glimpse of tv or radio, simply because there's a hard copy, so why is the press allowed to get away with so much more?

The PCC reminds me of the league of nations, except everyone is involved and fine with it. POOR.

It's interesting to note that by coincidence the commission members include the editor of The Mail on Sunday. With the commission including a few editors I can't help feeling there is potential for a conflict of interest, particularly with the PCC being funded by the newspapers & magazines.

and except the League of Nations had some successes (particularly re: drug traffic and a few plebicites) that were brushed under the carpet as part of the smear that was used to try and show how the UN would be so utterly different even though it was practically the same.
