I've already given thought to this question and it's tough but the presence of orange labels makes me think Sainsbury's.
I go with sainsburys too, the cottagecheese and coleslaw aisle perhaps.

It's Billa, in Venice.

Billa in Venice was my second choice.

Quite. So is it not time TVF was placed in the hands of someone who does have the time and passion to revitalise its appearance, and implement new functionality that will set it aside from other websites. If Asa doesn't want to lose absolute editorial command over his baby, perhaps he could at least oversee a complete revamp from an "executive" level.
It's really something for Asa to reply to, but I was always under the impression that he was tolling away at his own little software ready to replace it soon, although I honestly have no clue what it looks like / how far down the line it is, or anything else.

Unless the site pays for itself in ad revenue (which is possible, although given the size and complexity of the database compared to ours, not a certainty) he still must be forking out a fair bit to run it and I'd think that would show signs of him not wanting to just ditch it.

A word from a forum elder ... at least one of you knows of me from beyond the TVF/DS sphere.

I've been kicking around fora for the past 10 years, almost. Metropol really needs to develop some tact, there's a couple of people here and on TVF that get on my wick and they turn me off. Some stricter moderation might be in order so that posts directly hitting a specific individual AND THEIR OPINIONS rather than them in particular are strictly controlled.

There's bound to be in any community friendships and some hatred, that should be tolerated but anything directed at someone's opinion should be answered firmly. People's views are deeply held and I've been offended once here and left for a while as a result.

Banning offensive people really should be a simple thing, the reappearance of these in other guises should be restrictable with IP blocking, hopefully something phpBB should be capable of. It should be used frequently.

Cliques are good for the 'spirit' of the board though, they can be great fun to observe.

I'll give some more thought and add to this again.

I think all those things you mention already happen don't they? Unless it's a very specific individual you were thinking of who does get more stick than most but even so, posts about them have been withdrawn and censored when the mark has been overstepped.

I'm intrigued at that post.

If the person referred to is the person who one would automatically assume, their opinions play second fiddle to the baseless allegations and bile that they spew out about others, hence the true dislike of the individual rather than say, a passing amusement at the opinions they hold.

The second part of the post suggests to me another individual, with whom true dislike of their opinions would be more appropriate. The IP reference suggests that the individual may be the second one I thought of, in which case I have less sympathy towards them than the first.

Of course I could be completely wrong, and I suspect I may be, unless anyone knows any the wiser.

DVB Cornwall says we should respect other people's opinions.

Some maybe, but not all.

Homophobics, xenophobes, racists and others with a closed mind need not apply here. You even so much as hint that you touch the Daily Mail and we'll skin you alive.

I find this a curious comment, and maybe I'm misreading it, but is the suggestion here that people shouldn't challenge or criticise someone's opinion? I frankly don't care if a view is "deeply held" or not. What I think people should care about is whether someone can credibly justify the views they hold. Specifically, people who blindly subscribe to a point of view without actually understanding why don't deserve much respect as far as I'm concerned. If people make a claim or express an opinion, I don't think it's unreasonable that they should be asked to explain their thinking - that's part of a healthy debate.

Naturally this additional comment carries the overrider that anything that is illegal should not be permitted - that should cover the homophobic, xenophobic and racist elements previously mentioned.

Some clarification hopefully....

Opinions can be challenged yes, but simply attacking people for holding them should be discouraged. People are quite free to hold views which hopefully can be modified by these views being challenged.

If these views lead to implied verbal threats against others then it's at that stage that actions should be taken. Hopefully most people can hold back from this and such control should be un-neccessary. Challenges are much more effective if they are polite in my view.

I'm no good at the cryptic stuff. I prefer a straight answer to a straight question.
Dvb Cornwall who are the members that are getting on your wick?

I think metropol should have a games room! That would be rather fab. I'm a whizz at pacman and space invaders. Or we could have a darts room or sumfing, Give the place a bit of a pub feel to it. What with the credit crunch. You can pretend your can of tesco cheapy cider is a pint of draught strongbow. while slinging virtual arrows.
