May or may not be of interest, but Co-operative Food have booted out Co-operative Bank as their ATM provider before their contract ended:

They seem to have started already - the ATM at my local has been switched over, though it's using the same machine (only noticed because of the very 90s and very ugly UI it now uses). It still has the same branding though, the blue Co-operative logo but no mention of the bank.

Yes this happened at the EoE Co-ops around March this year I believe, I think I might have mentioned it at the time. Ours have green surrounds now, with the blue Co-op bank ones swiftly replaced, and also the hideous UI you mentioned.

Yes, Central England Co-op did the same thing a few months back.

Just how lucrative are free-to-use ATMs? I thought the modest revenue they generated covered little more than the cost of the machinery, maintenance and refilling?

The whole Co-op Bank situation is a total farce. It majorly narks me that they allow it (and Co-op Travel for that) to continue wearing The Co-operative name.

Cardtronics who are replacing the Co-Operative Bank also operate the Bank Machine branded ATM's at my local rail station. While free to use, the maximum withdrawal is £50.

However I suspect the Co-Operative will instruct Cardtronics to have a maximum withdrawal of £250.

Of those supermarkets which don't have own brand ATM's, only Asda and Morrisons spring to mind who have high street bank branded ATM's.

Asda changed all their machines to Asda branded ones a while back (although I think there is a Barclays logo on them too; just as there are RBS logos on the Tesco ones). I remember when JS first changed theirs to Sainsburys Bank the receipt would always print on Bradford and Bingley branded paper - I presume they were also serviced by HBOS?

I was going to say round here all ASDA Cash Machines are in Asda green branding.

Our little Asda has two ATMs supplied and run by Barclays with Barclays branding but they do have a green surround. When I was at Morrison's down at Sproughton Road in Ipswich, they have a Nat West, Lloyds and an HSBC machine.

Asda cash machines are rebadged Barclays machines (with some Barclays branding).
Tesco cash machines are rebadged RBS machines (with some RBS branding).
Sainsburys cash machines are rebadged HBOS machines.

I believe Sainsburys uniquely deal with the replenishment of their own machines (in larger sites). Tesco might do the same now that they have moved from reselling RBS financial products to selling their own.

The last time I used an Asda ATM (over a year ago admittedly) , they had Barclays and Santander branded ATMs.

The Sainsburys Bank ATM's always have had the HBOS interface as far as I recall, with Tesco's with RBS.

Incidentally the Tesco ATM at my local Express is branded "Royal Bank of Scotland CASHLINE", however unlike a RBS/Natwest ATM, the screen displays advertising for Tesco products after entering the pin and waiting for cash.

Tesco have changed their WiFi provider to BT, and no longer require a Clubcard number to log in. This article claims it's faster than the previous supplier, though I didn't see much evidence of that. Perhaps it's all the filtering they're doing on it.
