Schwing appears to be smart enough to know not to bother with trolls like that, so I don't know why he/she continued to bother.
Thanks for the kind words, Philip. For the record, I sent Asa a PM a short time ago asking that my account be closed.Philip wrote:Schwing appears to be smart enough to know not to bother with trolls like that, so I don't know why he/she continued to bother.
I like an argument and a debate as much as the next person but, honest to God, it's impossible to do that these days on TVForum. The likes of thejules pay no attention to what anybody else says. The content on News at Ten was never an issue. The anchor, the editorialising and the links were but that was irrelevant to thejules. That, combined with the vitriol in some of the posts of late have convinced me that any attempt to debate or engage is futile.
I did post something on the Bradby at Ten thread saying as much. Charlie Wells saw fit to delete the post. Presumably my critique of TVForum was viewed as subversive. Still doesn't justify removing an entire post which actually engaged with the issue of Bradby at Ten.
Anyway... For those that didn't have a chance to read my last post on the Forum, I'll repeats my thanks. It has been a pleasure and a privilege to discuss things with you over on TVForum. Sadly, it's no longer the place that it once was. To those of you who've been around long enough - thanks and so long.
Yes that seems to be policy on TV Forum, to immediately erase all evidence of any argument. Rather than simply close the thread which has come to its natural conclusion, we're expected to pretended nothing has happened and carry on as normal. Not a fan of that approach myself.Schwing wrote:I did post something on the Bradby at Ten thread saying as much. Charlie Wells saw fit to delete the post. It's frustrating that we're losing a good contributor in Schwing while 'thejules' continues to post. One step closer to DS quality I'm afraid.

It's very kind of you to say that, Martin. It's much appreciated. I don't want to leave TVForum. The lack of discipline and oversight on the part of the moderators, however, means that fair and reasonable comments from a variety of members - not just myself - are lost amongst the almost fanatical posts of a small number of individuals. These individuals do not listen to anything that remotely questions their view, let alone anything that may prove constructive. I've seen numerous posts on the Bradby at Ten thread in which thejules and a few others have made sweeping statements and, when challenged or engaged with, have ignored any such interaction.Martin Phillp wrote:It's frustrating that we're losing a good contributor in Schwing while 'thejules' continues to post. It's lovely of Charlie Wells to have posted that 'reminder'. If Charlie could direct me to any post where I have been argumentative or rude towards somebody, I would be grateful. As far as I know, I haven't. Have I asked thejules to explain his comments in detail? Sure. That's what is supposed to occur in a forum for debate. Have I, like others, corrected him when he's made assertions or claims that are a) false; b) ill-informed; or c) based on mis-understanding? Yes. Again, that is what is supposed to happen in a forum. Can everyone please cease arguing with each other and stick to presentational aspects of ITV News at 10.
Ironically, I saw a post recently from Ginofish. If I remember correctly, a lot of us at TVF were critical of Ginofish because his posts on the Daybreak thread made hardly any sense at all. All he needed to do was take some time, think about what he was saying and read through what was written. I know that when I tried to help Ginofish and asked that he do just that, one of the mods deleted my post. It wasn't appropriate, I was told. It was bullying. No. It was constructive. Three years on and Ginofish's posts are miles ahead of those by thejules. They are balanced and reasoned. It shows how a community can help each other, if allowed. That doesn't seem to be the case on TVF.
Sad though it is, I won't be returning to TVForum anytime soon. A lot needs to change before I would even consider posting again - if at all.
You're not alone Schwing, I'm on the verge of doing the same. Everything 'thejules' posts is fucking pissing me off, and I've just had it up to here with it all.Schwing wrote:Sad though it is, I won't be returning to TVForum anytime soon. That, too, will be a loss to TVF, Rob.rob wrote:You're not alone Schwing, I'm on the verge of doing the same. Everything 'thejules' posts is fucking pissing me off, and I've just had it up to here with it all.
Compared to some members of the Forum, I've never been the most frequent poster. What's the point of getting worked up into a frazzle just because a presenter has had an extra day off and is being covered by somebody else? What's the point of getting worked up over a new headline bed when, in fact, it's probably been heard once or twice before but you've never really noticed?
I always preferred to post on threads or topics that actually mattered somewhat. And, if I was going to post, I was determined that my posts wouldn't be short and snappy but (more often than not!) long and hopefully considered. It appears that we cannot even do that anymore.

Considering skygeek has decided not to divulge any info from Sky News that he's allowed to mention on TVF as well, surely the mods need to go back to the drawing board and decide what to do with the likes of 'thejules?'
It's all and good when the community comes together to stop the inane gossip around a presenter/journalist's private life, but the fanaticism of people on the Bradby at Ten thread and to a latter extent about GMB should be monitored more closely to curb some of the fanatical banality.
