At xmas I went into the new That's Entertainment (terrible selection of CDs), which is right next to the recently moved Fopp. When did fopp stop being a place for bargains? Cheaper than HMV though.
That 'new' That's Entertainment has now closed. I hope you enjoyed the ancient John Menzies logo on display on the stairs in there though.

Basically fopp has the same pricing structure as HMV, apart from some of its own specialist promotions. However overstocks that HMV can't shift get transferred to fopp and sold off dirt cheap. Also a lot of warehouse overstocks from suppliers end up in fopp at massively discounted prices, like new blu-rays for £2 or £3

Damn, I was in there a few times when it was open and never noticed that!

I still have some John Menzies branded stuff I bought in the late 90s, funnily enough they were still selling stuff with the 80s logo then! I'm pretty sure I bought it after the WHSmith takeover too.

Found out what happened to the Hull branch of That's Entertainment. Another company, Pep&Co, offered higher rent, so the landlords gave them the boot without giving them the chance to match it. I hope Pep&Co, which is a new business, fails. Their evil gazumping tactics shouldn't be allowed - TE's lease wasn't even due for renewal yet (it opened September 2013, so I assume September was when it was due for renewal).

I believe it's That's Entertainment policy to seek units on low rent/no commitment type deals (which are attractive to shopping centres looking to decrease their vacancy rate/council rates liability without turning stores over long term to companies with no interest in doing them up).

Although they went bust almost 2 and a half years ago, hmv relaunched its home delivery website today (its store.hmv.com). They seem to be back to where they were before the collapse but in a much better overall position. Next step apparently is to introduce a free digital copy when you buy the physical album

The returns address for the new HMV online store is in Erdington, where I think hmv.com orders were handled under the old owners?

If I recall, the Argos Digital stores are the ones where staff and customers use tablets to order goods, just like this one in Old Street, London.
