One example of the downsides of generic threads is that the BBC's DOG shift to 16:9, surely quite a big discussion point and change of policy for the BBC that is worthy of its own thread on TVF, is being discussed in the CBBC Thread. A thread that really isn't relevant for 75% of the channels that are being referred to, and it's very easy, I would imagine, for people to miss the posts.

I did send an RTP suggesting this be split but nobody seems to have noticed it / acted on it (and at least one of the mods was on metro at ten to seven, presumably he was on the other site too).

This is a MAJOR change in BBC pres and it is hidden in the CBBC thread ffs.

Perhaps what might be an idea is "second tier" mods who can do minor things like thread splitting but not ban users. It's hardly a secret that on here me and sputters have mod access for technical reasons but don't go around being actual mods apart from cleaning up spam bots. I'm sure there are some trustworthy types who could do such things over the road without it turning into Digital Spew with their 400 moderators to a user.

Like an "Site Staff" level and a "Moderator" level?

It could work well I believe.
