when i saw the junction at the end of question time last night, i had a feeling that somebody had died (it's about the only occasion i've seen a news report between a programme like that), but i nearly fell off the sofa - i really couldn't believe it was michael jackson.
for me he's always been around, i grew up with his music, i remember the hype reaching fever-pitch when he came over to the uk to tour back in the late 1980s, those crowds of people passing out when he touched them, it was all a bit surreal.
i'll be honest, i am genuinely saddened by his death and saddened because i don't think there will ever be an artist and entertainer like him again.

He was not a likeable man - his bizarre and erratic behaviour made him a poster boy for weirdness, and alienated many. Allegations (never proved, but not disproved either) of child sexual abuse have tainted him for many, but for me, I always seperate person from art. Michael Jackson's music is all that matters to me, and in that respect, we have lost someone truly unique.

Agreed.
Even Spotlight tonight ran a story about some guy from Devon who was a bodyguard for Jackson when he visited Exeter years ago.
However, the story was buried seventeen minutes in, so not as bad as some other outlets.
Newsline managed to do some vox pops with shoppers in Belfast and found a middle-aged woman in tears in HMV. Was towards the end of the programme.

Anyone else aware they have been gathering at the wrong Michael Jackson's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame?
Turns out MJ's star is covered by a red carpet for a Bruno premiere. So they've been gathering at this chap's star instead.

Just to go back to the Plymouth Herald argument, the Jacksons do have connections to Devon. Michael visited Exeter City, as has been said, but the family were also considering/did buy a house in North Devon.
Anyway, despite visiting the Plymouth area once or twice I've never bought the Herald - I always go for the Western Morning News and the Devon Sunday Independent!
