I'm pretty sure if the CD was buggered, then it's not considered fit for purpose etc. etc. regardless of any covers or guarantees.

If the installation screws up, it doesn't matter where you buy it from, they'll just say that its not their problem and there's nothing wrong with the media. Gameworld or PC World or wherever can only be held responsible if they screw up your computer. Selling you a copy of Vista that you then put on your computer that screws it up is not their fault. If the DVD is "buggered" that's a different story but I've never seen a duff Windows CD/DVD out of the original box.
