I'd like to put another smaller, yet potentially highly destructive group up for further investigation. I'd like to term them the "tartan trolls". These are the hugely frustrating people who make me feel almost ashamed to be Scottish.
Regional threads are always hard to keep interesting for all readers, but trying to is something that should be considered by all contributors, I think. But these guys take every single discussion you open and hit it with all the same remarks and all the same arguments (twisting it all back to budget cuts at SMG it would appear, or the colour of the carpet in the Reporting Scotland studio).
Don't get me wrong, I'm not against discussing those things but these people just churn out the same points regardless of what you post originally. More often than not they don't even have a clue what the topic is about in the first instance. The "ITN Scottish News proposals" thread illustrates this exact point. They also try to "rule" every Scottish thread, seemingly because they live here they see themselves automatically qualified as experts.
I imagine other regional threads are the same. Maybe I should be glad these less prolific trolls contain themselves to a limited number of threads but the sheer banality of their posting actually deters me from posting altogether now. It's a discussion board and I want a bit of intelligent discussion!
Tartan trolls to add to the "watch" list:
Scotland Today Addict, Anne McKenzie Fan, Lewis c, Barney Boo (seems to have calmed down and is not posting so much).
As for the forum in general, perhaps a bigger warning like "This forum is moderated",a clearer listing of who the mods are, and perhaps a bigger message on the pages when a Mod is online - I'm sure (if more mods are recruited) that these trolls will think before posting if they see that a mod is currently active on the forum. Kinda 'police presence' type thing).
Another idea, perhaps new members should have their first 5-10 posts approved by a moderator. Not sure if this is possible due to the real-time nature of the board. It would also mean more work for the mods too.
Just my two cents.

The problem with the first idea is that the trolls often think that they've been attacked by people for being such twats. They don't realise that this is the (well, virtual) real world where people aren't as nice as mummy and daddy.scottishtv wrote:

Seriously though, would it be TVF without the trolls?
This is the same sort of thread that appears every 3 or 4 months, in which people announce how terrible TVF has become, and how shockingly full of trolls it is.
They've always been there, and in part I think it adds to the hilarity of the place. Though winifred really needs to go.

Winifred returned as Christina for a brief period yesterday and was banned again.
Acually, this Winifred really freaks me out. Talk about a weirdo. All this "the BBC always take good University candidates " and "the wedding of the year will be the divine Natashas ".
I think its the hysterical laughter after every post that gives me the shudders.

I have always thought that - and this is meant in all seriousness - if TV Forum had been around when Jill Dando was alive, Barry George would've been one of the top posters.
