badger always brings up ABC1 in every post. Don't know if he's talking about the AU ABC or ABC1 the defunct channel.

Faithful devotees will probably find this a little surprising, but I wish to go on record as agreeing with the post from itsrobert a couple of pages back.

itsrobert wrote:Hi everyone. I don't venture over here much but I'm at the end of my tether with TV Forum at the moment, like so many of you. Having been a member since day one, it's so sad to see the state it's in nowadays. It really saddens me that so many of the old guard have left and it's definitely down to all this rota crap. I fought against this development for a while when I was a mod but it's slowly just taken over. If I recall correctly, one of my last suggestions before giving up moderating was to separate off the rota discussion into separate threads. That seemed to work for a while but in the end the boundaries between normal threads and rota threads became blurred. If I'm brutally honest, like Schwing, I think the explanation is in the practically non-existent moderation. I can't honestly remember the last time I even saw a mod post. Many members used to complain that I was too heavy-handed as a mod, but the situation now is ridiculous - it's like a ship without a rudder. There's no way I would have let the likes of ginofish et al run roughshod over the forum in the way that they have. The only way I can see the forum improving is if a heavy-handed approach is taken once more - not against the (rightly) frustrated long-standing members, but being ruthless with the members who are really at the root of the problem. Only by doing this and properly enforcing the rules (especially the one about staying on-topic, which seems to have gone out of the window) can TV Forum return to its former glory.
Here here.

You're always welcome here, Rob.

I've also wanted to say something similar to Phil once or twice.

As Michael always gladly points out on the other place. :P

And on the subject if moderation - I realise that it's an effort to make sure you log in every day. To read every post, to check every thread.

But that's the gig.

I personally am very fond of mr wells and bailey boy - but if they don't have the time to spend moderating, then they should consider handing it over to someone who does.

We're in this bizarre area where only frustrated members get chastised - and when members resort to self help, entire swathes of posts are removed, leaving no trace of the statements that so often need to be made, as in, "shut the fuck up, you stalking, broken record weirdo".

It's probably easier to remove ALL the posts then step in and moderate, but it doesn't serve anyone. And a forum is a collection of people who commit their time and knowledge and effort to the site. That should at least elicit a considered response in kind.

Perhaps the moderation team needs adding to rather than replacing?

Two mods and an admin should be perfectly adequate for a forum of TVF's size.

It's not the size of the mod team, it's the quality.

I totally agree that quality > quantity but maybe the moderation team could do with more help.

Just a thought.
