He's the opposition leader. It's what they DO. Had the shoe been on the other foot Cameron would have been doing the exact same thing. I don't like it and I had no idea the roles reversed so readily but my eyes were opened last year!

I certainly agree with not liking it and David Cameron was one of the worst for taking a single issue and battering Gordon Brown with it (have an election, etc). To give David Cameron his due, he has gone pretty far in renouncing his relationship with Andy Coulson and given the hacking enquiry a pretty large remit. But I think Ed Miliband's calls of too little too late do ring a little true as it's clear this has been known for some time. However, I think it could ultimately backfire as the Labour government of the time will no doubt be implicated in certain parts of the story as some of this went on while they were in power.

Having said that, Ed Miliband pretty much had to seize this opportunity and take the moral high ground. Unfortunately he's not had many chances to do this and while it may not have increased his standing in the public's eyes he has reflected their mood which has seen a drop in Conservative support in some of the polls. We are however a fickle bunch so one we get round to the state opening of Parliament, the situation could be very different.

Now that parliament is in recess, the story will die down for a while until the hacking probe uncovers more concrete evidence.

Well - Cameron, although not quite on the ropes over this fiasco, has shown a catastrophic error in judgement.

This nonsense about Coulson "deserving a second chance" after resigning in ignominy just sounds completely ridiculous - and it was fascinating to note that it was Osbourne who pushed for the appointment in the first place.

Odd, then, to see George on the front bench yesterday, nodding away as Cameron sought to distance himself from Andy and the apparent complicity in this sleaze.

But this whole fiasco has shown members of every party flip 180 degrees to condemn the Murdoch empire, and indeed all connection with media organisations. Doesn't sit well to see any of them taking the high ground, least of all when its done in the name of the public.

Ed Millibean is very guilty of this; but in fairness I don't think he's developed those relationships with NI executives in the same way up to this point - however - but for this situation, I believe he ultimately would have too.

Seeing him in the commons though - it was like a toothless shark relentlessly bouncing his gums off Cameron. Not that Cameron performed better - Dennis Skinner asked the forensic question about BSkyB discussions, and got Cameron to admit (by what he couldn't say) that he had discussed the takeover bid in some fashion. This shines a light on the removal of Vince Cable from the process earlier in the year.

Clegg has been noticeable in his silence.

There's clearly lots more to learn about all of this - the revelations, I understand, have only just begun.

To reiterate Michael's point earlier - if you're not already reading Private Eye - go and buy it!

Im starting to think all is forgiven, Sunday mirror or Sunday mail is utter tosh, I know! but there are, at least the NOTW had some decent content, and I know very well why it was the best paper on a Sunday.

Why the compulsion to buy a paper anyway? If the one you like is closed down, do you need to have a second choice?

what worse is I never made this choice, its was the paper shop, I found out that most shops north of the border changed most of the customers over to Sunday mail. I think its going to get stopped from this weekend.

I've never heard of anyone swappping between the Sunday Mail and the Sunday Post before. Surely one is extremely Catholic and Celtic and the other extremely Protestant and Rangers?

I don't know about that. I've always read a paper front to back, and not the other way around; so any sectarian leanings are lost on me.
