I got a bit carried away in trying to defend my view that they should all be scrapped. Obviously that won't happen for over a hundred years at the very least. I don't think we should be building any more though. 10% of the National Grid's main 400kV power lines are already underground, so it's obviously feasible. There's some European Commission thing about putting new lines underground if the pylons would otherwise be within 300 metres of a private dwelling or something as well.
