as for what we got away with, a clue can be gained by clicking the on the nectcar card looking carefully down the right hand column...

Bugger. Never was very good at these lateral puzzle games. Looking at the clues you gave, I'm still drawing a blank because I'd hate to guess and get it wrong. It'd better be something much better than a commented message in the code.
