AOL and connection to the internet

I've been with Diamond Cable --> NTL --> Virgin for over ten years now, dial-up through to broadband (plus phone and TV). Despite the dubious reputation NTL had (has?), and the recent connection hiccups since the switch-over to Virgin, I've never had any issues so far product-wise that would make me consider switching provider.

Although if you do need to phone them up for any reason, their customer service still takes forever to get through to...and then of course it's luck of the draw as to whether or not you get a helpful person or a total dullard on the other end.
What the fuck is a samoflange?

Moral of the story? Never, ever, sign up to Tiscali. Orange or AOL aren't much better according to ADSLGuide.
I've been on Tiscali for over two years now, and never had any problems. I only ever had to contact them once, and that was to do with their FTP webspace connection, but internet connection wise, the service has been very good.
The speed is more or less constant, although when I first had it it was a bit slow in the evenings, but no problems since early-mid 2006 I should think.

I went down to Maplins earlier and spent £40 on a new ADSL modem. Tiscali now works perfectly.

I apologise to Tiscali.

Doh! Can you stop your cancellation or did you not go through with it?

I can stop it. This is from the e-mail they sent me which included my MAC key:

"Please remember, your invoices are in arrears and you are liable to pay for the remainder of your service with Tiscali. Once your final balance has been collected we will automatically stop collecting payment via direct debit/credit card - please do not cancel your payment method with your bank.

Before you switch providers we recommend you go to the Tiscali My Account area to check the new, great value packages available to you. You can change your price and speed at any time. If you change your mind and decide to remain with Tiscali, simply do not use your MAC code.

Kind regards,

Tiscali Broadband Team. "
