Why is there a diffrence between the sub surface lines and the deep lines - is there some technical diffrence why the trains are diffrent?

fears being accused of being an anorak but ....

Sub surface lines (Circle District, Hammersmith & City) have wider tunnels and therefore slightly larger trains can be accomodated. One interesting fact (anorak alert) is that the new rolling stock will enable passengers to walk the entire length of the train and not be stuck in the same carriage for their journey. Hopefully this will lead to better seat occupancy. It'll also lead to more standing room too.

Sort of - but the main difference is actually that deep level tube lines (Bakerloo, Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly, Victoria, Waterloo & City lines) are in tunnels that were mined deep below the ground. Sub surface lines (Circle, District, East London, Hammersmith & City and Metropolitan lines) are lines that were created through cut and cover methods and are generally in the open air with tunnels and stations being covered that are (largely) above or below street level.

Scrapped in the 1990s. And btw FYI Glasgow has the third oldest subway system in the world.

Erm, they were given new upholstery and are still in service on the District Line... They're gradually being upgraded for one final hooray before being replaced at the end of the decade.
