Surely you should be ashamed of not paying for the BBC. The licence fee is far too low anyway, it should be at least £400. I'd willingly sell my house and all its contents to help the BBC.

I'm not in any way ashamed of paying for the BBC, but it doesn't alter the fact that the idea of being required to hold a licence to own a TV, for which a substantial annual fee is payable, and of which the BBC is the sole benefactor even though there are many things you can do with a TV set, is immoral and wrong.

And there is also something very wrong with a legal system where people can commit assault and be punished with a £50 fine and a few hours of community service whilst those watching TV without a licence face a £1000 fine and theoretical imprisonment.

Incidentally, how long do you reckon the BBC would last with a £400 licence fee? Either everyone would evade the licence fee, depriving the BBC of funding and causing more breaches of the law than the system can cope with, or everyone would abide by the law but most people would be unable to afford the fee, again depriving the BBC of funding.

I prefer not to involve the *principle* in my conclusions about the Licence, otherwise I would agree with you.

The *actuality* of the matter is that it's one of the most minimal aspects of my "entertainment" spend per year and the one I get (probably) the most enjoyment out of.

In terms of value for money I can't really fault it.

My paycheck reveals what tax I pay; and although I very much appreciate running water and clean streets, I get more enjoyment from my telly tax pound.

I don't think it's that crap personally, a bit unfair say if you watch more commercial channels and DVD's etc rather than the BBC.

Justify that sweeping rubbishness of a statement.

BBC is NOT That great. OK it's the best of a bad bunch but is still rubbish compared to what it was in 1991

In other words... you made a throwaway comment that has zero substance to it, and are unable to justify it.
