Birmingham isn't in the East Midlands.

The media were definitely saying the final debate will be held in the East Midlands a couple of weeks ago.

The official line has now changed to 'the midlands' - probably because the ambiguity reduces the risk of disruption.

Considering the first debate was held in the North West and the second is being held in the South West, it would be a bit odd to have the final debate in the West Midlands, wouldn't it?

Considering QT is coming from Birmingham this would also make sense...

When people think of 'The Midlands' they think of Birmingham as the main city, they'd think of someone from the midlands as having a brummie accent for example. The West Midlands is always a key region as it's were lots of the marginal seats are. The logic that all the previous debates were in the West and North West, doesn't really make sense, in reality they're totally different parts of England.

I'm assuming the venues of the debates have been decided by the TV channels anyway, so I'm guessing they've decided on the basis of where the best venues are and who'll be the most interesting audience wise.

I wonder if the BBC debate will be produced by the QT team/Mentorn?

Well the broadcasters have obviously collaborated to consciously represent north, middle and south between them, which is why I think it would be strange for all of the debates to then be held in the west.

Indeed, rule number one of the list of 76 rules is:
1.The objective is to select an audience which is broadly a demographic cross section of the country.
An independent market research company has been tasked with selecting the audiences based on gender, age, ethnicity, social class and voting intention and questions are chosen by an editorial panel of senior journalists, so the venues were not decided on the basis of 'who'll be the most interesting'.

Rule number four is:
4. Recruit within a 30 mile radius of the host city,
Which means that if all three debates are held in the west then the eastern population will not be represented in these debates at all.

Anyway, the media said the final debate would be in the East Midlands, not me.

So it's been confirmed that the third and final debate will be held in Birmingham, but maybe they changed it from the East Midlands for logistical reasons, or something.
