If you take that view you can always use the thread title 'What bothers you the most?'. Although your server is in America, the majority of your members are from Merry England and the surrounding area.

PS: No I am not confusing Merry England with the United Kingdom because I do not believe in the United Kingdom. Merry England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, to me, are completely seperate countries with different cultures and languages. I also believe that Northern England should be split into another country, perhaps called 'Ye Olde Bardus'.

As we are discussing England and the UK at the moment, I must point out that I hate it when I am prompted to answer what country I live in on a website and am not given the choice of England, but instead the choice of the UK. The UK is not a country, but four select countries together

Which, in itself, is quite odd, because, having been born in England, I probably still have more affinity with Wales.

Well no worries then, just pop along to the bank in Bologna where myself and Mr Hyma tried to cash a travellers cheque once who didn't have any reference to this country on his PC, no UK, no Britain, no Great Britain, no England, no Scotland, nothing.

I suppose if nothing else it was consistent.

Got the money in the end though, although I suspect this was because we refused to leave and they wanted to close.

A television-related pet peeve of mine is when newsreaders regularly begin stories by asking a question, such as: "Now, should drug addicts be paid to get sterilised?" and, "Should the UK fund toilets in Mumbai slums?" and, "Should people pay for new organs?"

The BBC News Style Guide is on my side. Paragraph six, page 14 states:

• Do not start a news report with a question. The audience wants to be informed, not take part in a quiz.

I would go further than that by advising that the job of the news is to report the news, not to provide a social commentary or purposefully prompt the viewer to ask questions of themselves and society. Leave that to the Church (or the Mosque, or the Gurdwara).

Reports along the lines of, 'a leading think-tank has suggested...' are equally exasperating. A suggestion isn't news.
