I love when you can see the cogs working their way to a solution like that but bypassing common sense. It's like the times you give the dumb looking checkout person a slightly odd vegetable (and we're talking a sweet potato here, not like one of the really exotic things) and you watch them desperately try to fathom it out using the wheel before having to ask.
In a similar vein it's not that long ago that someone in planning decided the BBC ONE Festival ident would obviously be suitable for use into the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance.
Thankfully it never made it to air in that sequence...

I have it on authority from a member of my family who worked in Argos that when an order is made, the little ticket that is stuck to your item as it arrives is called a "picking ticket."

You're absolutely correct, sometimes warehouse staff are even referred to as 'Pickers'
(Quick geeky side-note) The tickets are meant to stay in store for tracking reasons and not on the product eg with stock issues we use them as a guide.

The system at JS is a lot more complicated than that described at Tesco - every line is categorised and sub-categorised. The system simply picks an alternative within the same subcategory, if there isn't any then it's a "Sorry, we couldn't find an alternative" flyer (and a couple of quid off E-Voucher, sometimes).

Yep. I peel them off if I ever have to pick such a thing. Bloody irritating things.
