Erm, yes quite.
I'm sure there *are* people who like to eat the floating remnants from a deep fat fryer, but you wouldn't want to ask them round for tea.

On the Yorkshire side, we always called them "scraps".

Sorry, Scraps is right and I was brought up in one of the many arse ends of Nottinghamshire, hence my backwards ways. You wouldn't have a LOT, maybe just a couple of spoonfuls to add extra crispiness to your plate. It's no different to the batter on a fish, it just happens to have become dislodged.

My dad is from London (or LANDAN - in a silly accent) and they used to call them bits - they didn't have a lot of money so they used to get get a bag of these and said he drenched them in Tomato Sauce - sounds disgusting.

In my house we would pay tramps tuppence to gnaw away at the loose bits of batter before we sat down to high tea.
We lent them sterilised wooden teeth (like the Queen Mum used to wear), so we didn't catch something common.

My mum and dad used to have a chippie and the crispy bits of batter were never wasted when i was around. The kids on the estate used to hate it if i got there before them for the freebie scraps.
