Depends on what you want your iPod to do, if you're looking for space and the added capability of a large USB portable drive then the Classic is for you but if you're looking to have a PDA setup and being able to be connected to the internet through Wifi when available then the touch is for you. It's a tough choice but I went with the iPod touch once my 5G iPod died and even though I took a storage hit I get a lot more out of it in simple terms of it way transcending what my previous iPod could do.

I'd say to try one out in a store, see how they meet up and ask yourself what matters the most to you. Personally I'd say the touch is awesome in every single way but the classic is also great if you just want sheer storage.

Is it just me or did no-one really notice the touch when it came out 14 months ago? Being the geek I am I wasted no time in getting one, but I've only noticed it getting recognition since the revamp last september.

I noticed it but at the time wasn't within my considerations as I needed space more than I needed the gorgeous touch screen loveliness (big video collection). Right about the time I did need one, the 2G touch came out so I jumped at it instead of getting the classic and can't say I miss the space. Bit of a shame it was overshadowed but the iPhone was the must have item and did change a whole industry's thinking.

Also, the 2G touch is uber-sexy.

I'm still going to wait until they bring out a 32GB model, or something of similar capacity, so that I can hold all of my music on it, because I'm getting fed up of swapping songs around all the time instead of having them in one place. I have a 1st gen. iPod nano, and it's playing up quite a lot, as is my old Motorola phone. So having one device instead of two.

But it would be nice if they added a higher megapixel camera, not for that in particular, but with added zoom and focus. Also, video recording, MMS and a significant price reduction - I don't mind switching to PAYG on O2, but it really needs to be cheaper. I've seen it rumoured that an "iPhone nano" might be released soon, but then why would you want an even smaller version of it, other than for the fact that it's "the smallest phone Apple has EVER made!"? I'd much prefer an equally rumoured "iPhone HD", seeing as that could be the next big tagline after "iPhone" and "3G". But the problem is, since Apple has said that the MacWorld Expo thing in January will be their last one, and Steve Jobs won't be there, the release may be more unlikely. At least until June, when it's more likely to be revealed, seeing as it would have been a year since the iPhone 3G was first shown to the public.

So it's just a case of playing the waiting game, and it's incredibly frustrating, just as it is with waiting for The Beatles to go on iTunes.

Sorry to drag up an old thread but just had to say I am VERY excited - just like a fanboy - about the 3.0 software for the iPhone.

FINALLY copy and paste will be implemented. Only this could get a round of applause when it was unveiled by Apple as if it was some new innovation.

Landscape keyboard in key apps - yes! Forward and delete messages - yes! MMS support - yes! Flash? Sadly not.

Much of this wouldn't come about if it wasn't for the so called iPhone killers - people may groan but there are some touch screen phones that are gaining prominence and are beginning to split the market. So Apple have needed to fight back and I'm glad they'll put in the features that everyone has been asking for.

After umming and arrring over whether to get an iPhone - I just want to say it was the best decision I ever made. Especially now I can sync Google Calendar over the air. When I can do it with Gmail then I think my life will be complete.

Of course the new software comes with the usual rounds of rumours as to whether a new iPhone will be released. As they're beefing up the software it seems likely that they will release a 64Gb version seeing as it's thought the older versions will be free and perhaps not even exclusive to o2.

Remains to be seen I guess but the enhancements they're making in 3.0 really aren't just hype. Eeekk I almost forgot - Spotlight. A single search across all the key apps on your phone! Brilliant!
Good Lord!

The one thing about the iPhone ads that slightly irritates yours truly is that they seem to infer that Shazam is some sort of new thing - whereas those of us able to type 2580 into our more rudimentary bricks have been Shazamming since, well, ever.

And those of us looking for a Thai restaurant in the local area have had Yell on WAP for just as long. I even seem to remember a Yell application coming as standard with my last Nokia.

It smacks a little bit of "we can do it too, but with fancy graphics and shake-a-phone technology." And of course people will fall for it.

Isn't that like saying "I don't need one of them new fangled computer things typewriters were good enough for us back in our day..."

I'm no mac fanboi but I think apple's implentations in the iPhone are spot on, integrated shazam no exception.

WIndows Mobile users who are in denial about the fact they don't own an iPhone (i.e. me) might like this browser. It seems better than Opera which is unbelievably slow and doesn't click on links properly in my humble opinion and uses the Safari rendering engine.
