You've got a point there. On other forums I've seen post counts hidden in an attempt to level the playing field, as it were. Not sure if it works but the idea sort of makes sense.

Everyone should be admin, even smarter as everyone is king or queen! Outside of idiotland though, removing either signup date or postcount would be daft as it doesn't change who are the top dogs to be wary of and who you can ignore. I don't feel removing either stat would change anything seeing as we don't compete for bestest postcount or judge on joinup date.

The idea of seniority never seemed to stop Nini terrorising the board, despite a membership of less than 12 months. Your point is therefore moot, Ronnie.

I agree with freddy here. I share his reasons for lurking rather than posting. As far as I see it (and having been a member on TVF since its inception, that's quite a long overview) Metropol has a few things working against it and many of them underlie my decision not to venture over here often.

The forum does have a very closed feel to it. When I was a moderator over on TVF, I was frequently on the receiving end of jokes, insults and, in some cases, bullying over my decisions as a moderator. That happened pretty much from the start and even though I'd been a member there since the start, I always felt (and still do to some extent) like an outsider. It's interesting that as soon as I stepped down from being a moderator in January, I stopped receiving that treatment altogether. It was a major factor in my decision to step down in the first place. After 7 years of serving TVF's members I reached a point where I couldn't be bothered coming home after a hard day's work to face all that abuse. I'm glad to say I'm enjoying TVF much more now since I stepped down.

Getting back to Metropol, most of the people that harassed me as a moderator moved over here when it opened after the closure of The Lounge and it basically became a bitching area for things happening over at TVF. That put me off stopping by. Also, all that talk of the secret forum, whilst seeming as a joke at first, eventually began to make me - and I suspect others - feel alienated from the rest of the membership.

In my opinion, this whole problem has been brought on by Metropol's members themselves. You created that feeling in this forum so as to keep out the 'undesirables' and bitch about and ridicule other members of TVF, but it's now turned round to bite you in the butt because people don't want to be a part of this community. The only way I see you turning this place into a popular forum is to cut out all the bitching, insulting threads about TVF and make it somewhere that TVF members can visit to discuss non-TV things.

When you say it like that, turns me off the idea of wanting new members altogether.

Fair enough, you can't have it both ways.

Not against all new members, just the riff raff we know we'll hate. Smart folk, yes. Idiots, no. Simple enough logic.

With your idea, who decides what category they fall into, Nini? As a newbie of less than a year, would you subject yourself to the same rules?

Cheers Rob. At least I've got one ally :). I do feel that we're lone wolves calling out in the wilderness though. The regular Metropollers have built up their own little exclusive club and, despite Hymagumba's claim to want to attract new members, I don't believe the regulars really want that. New members are going to be thin on the ground unless the admin deals effectively with the bullying and pack mentality that goes on here.

Back to lurk mode.
