I realise it was for the birthday which has since passed. Is Metropol the kind of place that keeps it birthday cards on the mantlepiece for a week after the event ?

It's just a massive retrograde step, all very similar to TVF, bring back the desktop the receipt et al.
Oh come on, it took Hyma long enough to code, give it longer than 24 hours. It makes a nice change as well.

Well maybe if you'd give it some attention once in a while it wouldn't HAVE to turn purple!

Oy, i want purple back, its was modern and nice looking, not this 'general british everymans table' thing, its missing the key fob, the metropol logo should be that, with lots of keys.

Forget it mate, it's not the early 2000s now. The world's a much scarier place and having a place to retreat to that smells of rich mahogany is a wonderful thing.

really? it lacks avatars, attachments and many other features, had a messy posting screen, was bland once you were mid thread, lacked a function to alert you to new messages and lacked any sort of indication as to whether forums had new posts in them. For a site of 2003 it did look smart but not in 2008 and not with the major (carefully recreated) flaws it also contained.

that is NOT the intended effect. and while we're on the subject of missing things, I note that despite every other user on here managing to stick to the "avatar must be your face" rule, you then uploaded a glorified emotion, tsk.

The purple was good for its time, and it was nice to be reminded of it as part of the 5 year celebration, but there really is no contest. The current Metropol look is absolutely outstanding, and one of the best damn looking sites around.

This table surface is FAR fabber than the plastic-coated MDF crap that the British Everyman would have as his table.

i think i will take this opportunity to thank myself for five years of top quality posting on metropol. i know for sure i would not read metropol if it weren't for the little gems of wit and intelligence which i dot around this forum to educate and entertain you all. :)
