But less legal.

I might consider it "easier, better and safer" to drive on the hard shoulder -- after all there's nothing on there, right? -- does that make it legally acceptable?

Er no - we were doing 70. WAKE UP!

Are you James Martin?
Errr, on a SC NSL the speed limit is 60, remember?

You just want to drive fast and, in my opinion, by admitting freely to breaking the law, driving fast and berating me for choosing to stay at 70, are not worthy of my time. Fuck off.
Well this is the point (no, not that I should fuck off). You're forcing the weaving to happen in the opposite direction it's supposed to AND a more complex series of speed changes in the car that you're forcing to undertake you (let's assume for a moment they're going at 72mph to deliver a kidney to an orhpan). I have to side with jjames, whoever he is, because your assumption that no-one will need to overtake you is a dangerous one. It's like assuming you wouldn't ever need a tuning control on a stage piano because every other instrument in the band should be at concert pitch. Sometimes there are just good reasons to be on the safe side.

WRONG. WE WERE ON A DC.

National Speed Limit
When you enter an area that is signed by a diagonal black stripe on a white background, you are driving under national speed limit restrictions. For most vehicles this will means 60mph on single carriageway roads and 70mph on dual carriageway roads. It is also 70mph on the motorway network unless otherwise indicated.

Yes, I know...

SC = single carriageway

DC = dual carriageway

Read my comment again. (And yes I do realise that there restrictions, but we are talking personal cars here)

Oh, and from the Highway code:

(http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TravelAndTr ... /DG_069862)

"Lane discipline
264

You should always drive in the left-hand lane when the road ahead is clear. If you are overtaking a number of slower-moving vehicles, you should return to the left-hand lane as soon as you are safely past."

How does this tally with your theory about it being OK to sit at 70 on the outside lane?

WE WERE ON A DUAL CARRIAGEWAY--- FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!

Look - I don't give a shit what you think. You're a cunt who admits to driving at speeds over the speed limit for no good reason other than to shave a few seconds off your journey. The twat who was in the beemer was a twat who drove over the speed limit just cos he was in a beemer. We were doing 70 on a road that's limited to 70. I'll never apologise for that, nor will I take lectures that what we did was unsafe.

And I've repeatedly stated that we were going past cars going 40-60mph, fairly constantly enough that if we were to drive at 70 in the LHL we'd be going in and out of the RHL every five seconds.

Well he started it ;)

Oh, and your comment about me being a bad man, when all I confessed to was passing convoys of traffic on the left: I give you HC no 268:

"268

Do not overtake on the left or move to a lane on your left to overtake. In congested conditions, where adjacent lanes of traffic are moving at similar speeds, traffic in left-hand lanes may sometimes be moving faster than traffic to the right. In these conditions you may keep up with the traffic in your lane even if this means passing traffic in the lane to your right."

So you stay in the right hand lane to shave a few seconds off your journey?

Within the law, as opposed to breaking the law.
