didn't one or both of those accounts get banned because it was suggested Nick had multiple usernames? or is my memory playing tricks on me?

i actually think hands-off moderation would work better over at tvf.
asa with all his silly little rules invites people to try and break them - that was in the end why i had multiple usernames over there a while back. if forum admins put stupid pointless artificial rules in place, people will try to circumvent them to get ahead of the system.
i don't have any multiple usernames here anymore, i just don't have the time, and many people here i've come to consider as friends, so i wouldn't take the piss like that.
but i think asa could learn a lot from the metropol247 approach, since the ban everyone for anything mindset he has at the moment is not working.
look at digispy, handbag etc etc.

I'd like to run for it but it'll never happen.
My backing would go to Jamez.

Mortified, but flattered.
I've said to Martin and Asa that I'm happy to help, but would be very much happier to make that known without fanfare. Cheers, though.
As jb says, there's not a great deal of difference in being a moderator from a user. It doesn't take much more than common sense and a bit of time to kill. As such, long term single sociopathic men like myself are obvious candidates. But there are *many* of those on the forum. Ahem.
For what it's worth; Nick's a good bloke, Gavin's a good bloke. Either would do a good job over on TVF.
I'm not sure what's inspiring me to say this but I think our Uncle Bruce would make a good mod. YEARS of presenting on HTV West surely make him the perfect candidate? Seriously - certainly not bland, level headed and can spot a weirdo.
Gavin also gets my vote for certain.

Thank you, sir - unexpected, but thanks.

To paraphrase that epic philosopher Richard Littlejohn, I'd rather leave Fred West in charge of a group of young girls than having Uncle Bruce moderating.
Edit: Obviously he is dead, so he wouldn't do much harm, but you take my point.

I nominate myself to be the next moderator.

I feel the same about you, Cat.
Despite my wind-up tendancies on here, I do run another rather successful messageboard away from here. I think I've only ever had one complaint about how I moderate.
But, hey, I'm not really that worried about it here. I guess the hassle would outweigh the "joy" of doing it anyway.

It's not the issue of you ''winding people up'', it's how you go about it.
I'm all in favour of jokes and making fun, but I find your habit of entering every thread discussing a subject you dislike and declaring ''oh i bet you all jerk off over [[subject]]'' is slightly distasteful and entirely unnecessary.
I've seen you do it dozens of time now, and when confronted about it your answer is ''I don't care what you think, shove it up your arse'' etc. etc.
I just hope you're more pleasant in real life.
