I thank you sincerely. Such is the nature of Edinburgh clubs it shall be an hour or so before I think about making my way along the road - and I'm rather fortunate that it is just along the road.

A buddy and his girlfriend have offered to accompany me to the club so I'm not there alone, which is nice. Whether I even speak to Pim tonight is almost irrelevant. It was damned nice to find myself in such a position.

Well guys, I've gone and done it.

I'm getting a chin implant and blepharoplasty (eyebag removal) on 17th December this year at some hospital in London.

I'm very excited - having tried to examine why, I think it is the whole adventure of the thing and imagining myself with the (probably) minor faults I have removed for good.

Business has been good this year so the bank easily passed the £6K loan for me to do it - I even told them why and my business manager has made an appointment to see me on 9th January because she is very curious!

Mum just laughed and said I had more money than sense and the lads are generally bewildered by what I'm doing, but I'm very keen - if slightly nervous because I'm as fit as an ox and never been operated on before (I usually refuse to take medication because I am suspicious of it).

Thanks for all your thoughts on this, negative and positive, and especially to Gavin for being so forthright with me.

The chin implant part of my operation is costing £3,850.
