You're in Howard Michael's constituency? You poor thing.

I actually did vote this morning. I'm turning into a right whore these days.

Becuase we had to pay off a huge load of International debt generated by Callaghan's Labour Government of the 1970s.

There is only one clear way forward. CONSERVATIVE.

A good point well made. Out of curiousity, what was the most 'outlandish' candidate on your ballot paper? One of the joke candidates in my constituency was some guy Harris standing for the "Death, Dungeons & Taxes Party".

That would be rather counter-productive, wouldn't it?

Mark you crossed the wrong box!

But seriously, I could not agree more with what you said earlier.

In some regards who you vote for is irrelevant, people around the world would die to have the opportunity we have today. So if you can vote, do.

And if you don't vote, don't you dare start winging about the state of the country, when you've made no effort to influence how the country is run.

I've had a major hangover all day, and I've really not felt up to driving the 200 mile (3 hrs 30 min) round trip to Pembrokeshire today. I doubt my little 1 vote will have made a difference though :(

EDIT: Fuck it! If I drive like a maniac I can get down there vote, say hi to the folks and be back here by 10.30pm!

Well after planning on voting Labour and Veritas (well, why not? I met him on Tuesday!) - I found out the voting system doesn't work like that! D'oh!

So my vote went to Labour as Liz Blackman is the nicest out of the choices around here - that David Simmonds bloke (Cons) is the most smarmy person you could ever wish to meet.

it seems "apathy" is one of the buzz words which will no doubt be wheeled out by the media and the politicians, to describe the electorate at every election till the end of time.

HOWEVER, i think the word "a-pathetic" would also accurately describe the effort shown by local candidates who are expecting me to take 10 minutes out of my very precious time to tick a box in their favour. not one of them has taken the time to knock doors and they have only bothered to put posters up at roundabouts. and the labour candidate could only muster a very poor photocopy of a leaflet to encourage me to vote. a far cry from the previous election when even the road where i live was decked out with posters for 4 parties and when the tories and labour candidates bothered to door knock. oh and they even had cars with megaphones on telling people on election day to get out and vote.

meanwhile the bbc have abandoned local opts during election night completely and had no special local programmes about the election ... again a far cry from 2001 when we had:

- several opts during the night (so i could at the very least see how the vote i cast has affected things)

- a series of local televised phone ins with the party leaders, so had i wanted to ask a question directly to the top ... i could have!

- a series of local debates where candidates and local people would come face to face.

seeing sound bites of the 3 party leaders in kent, aberdeen, north wales or even birmingham, banging on at us with the same old clichés is no use to me. i want to know what my local candidate is willing to do for me in exchange for my little "x" which guarantees him/her with a damn good wage for the next 4 years, the kind of job security many many people would chop off their little finger for.

i will, begrudgingly vote a little later, but i still maintain they do not deserve my time and effort.
