Also what the flump is with PayPoint and their weird 90s terminals?
They're a whole lot of fun. The touch screen is that really primitive technology where you can actually see the touch membrane like fire-proof glass.

Surely they're more expensive than a cheapo resistive touchscreen? Unless they have a massive stock of them or something?
Reminds me of how the lottery kept those clapped out clangers of machines going for so long before finally replacing them.

JJB has finally gone tits up:
BBC News
It's about time - in a market cornered by Sports Direct's cheapness and JD's style, they were never going to survive. Cheekily, JD have put up a sign saying that they're just 30 seconds away from the closed JJB in Hull Princes Quay, complete with the old JD logo. with the yellow triangle and red dot.

Yes - despite looking at image to confirm, I still managed to get it wrong.

Our JD has that logo on the inside but the new logo on the outside, saying that where I work has the new logo on the inside and the old logo on the outside

. I noticed Saturday that the JJB in my town had closed, it did become a JJB Outlet for a while.

you do wonder what the guys behind the investment group were smoking when they thought there was any value left in the comet brand.
i haven't purchased anything from comet in years, they had a tarnished reputation... bad service, upselling expensive useless extended warranties and cables and the in-store range always seemed to be half arsed.

I can't think of a single thing I've ever purchased from Comet.

I bought a Sony Walkman, and was double talked into spending an additional 13 quid to insure it.
Me. I was doubled talked. I swear he said it so I thought I couldn't buy it without. Like the *actual* price should have been £13 more.
I felt so ashamed I vowed never to return.
It's horrific that all these people are out of work, although that one guy can go fuck himself.

We bought our fridge from Comet 18 months or so ago. They promised to deliver for free in a specified two-hour timeslot, then phoned up the day before and told us that said promise was wrong, and that this wasn't even a service they offered, and that they'd deliver it some time between 7am and 7pm... which they duly did.
I wrote and complained about the slightly bizarre misinformation (how had they ever promised a service which didn't exist?) and they sent a lovely case of wine, which seemed an unusual sort of apology, but was very nice.
