Most members have nothing to worry about. Its the likes of tumble, mmtv in whatever guise he uses now and people who post continually in requests who need to calm down. This isn't just me going off on one both Asa and Charlie are on board and think it will help stop the current bitching that does go on amongst old and new members alike.

You'll never get rid of bitching at TV Forum. You can't have a community made up of mostly young males without in-fighting. It just won't happen. There's been bitching right from the start of TVF - you only need to look in the archival threads posted for the 7th birthday celebration to see that.
I agree that Requests needs sorting out but the stuff about poor spelling and grammar seems a bit harsh. Not everyone is good at that and it shows no toleration of members with conditions like dyslexia. Being punished for that is a bit harsh, in my opinion.

Other people with dyslexia on both these forums have shown it's no barrier, with near perfect spelling and most of the time.

I don't like it as it's the sort of power-drunk idiocy a moderation team shouldn't be participating in as it saps the life out of an otherwise fairly active and lively forum. If there was some form of crisis where nothing but disruption occurs then alright then but there's no fucking call for it right now. Someone speaks out of turn and end up banned for some reason only understood by the mod team and that kind of climate of fear doesn't exactly make the place any better but it does give the self-appointed one man Gestapo a good ego trip.

As I keep saying, the thing which separates TV Forum from many forums is the very thing this 'zero tolerance week' is trying to stop - essentially, the banter, the thing which keeps it alive. Rod for their own back?

Agreed. I thought the forum was running fine at the moment (strangely for the first time in ages).
One week will do nothing. We seen that with the previous "campaign".
Sheesh it's turning into DS over there.

I'm tempted to say, if you're doing your job then they should realise that already and if they don't a zero tolerance week will have little impact. I seem to remember the last time it was done it was a time when the forum had been under moderated and a succession of stupid posts and trolls had hit the forum.

Well I know Gav doesn't comment on the moderation on the other place due to it being bad form, however as I generally only am in charge of the technical side of this site and therefore moderate in accordance with what Gav says I'm quite happy to shoot my mouth off.
See the problem with the idea *AS WRITTEN* is it doesn't deal more directly with the problems at TVF.
The problems are rather specific, not wide ranging, and they are as follows.

Tumble Tower

The mock trolls

The rota trolls

The request trolls

The obit trolls

barcode
Therefore going around giving us cheek about banter, and the yaffyness is missing the point. The problem with the site are idiots like asiancutie123 posting shite about rotas and the cartel of shit mock people who post crap and praise each others crap and then when I say "actually, this is rubbish" start shouting at me because I don't make mocks myself.
These are the issues and they need to be dealt with directly and one at a time, the answer is not to sledgehammer your way into the forum going STOP.
Course I'm also of the opinion that Bail has a brain but lacks eloquence, therefore I'm sure he'll do things correctly and we won't end up in the situation where asiancutie posts shite, i tell her she's an idiot and then I get in trouble and she gets ignored...

It's a shame Bail's thread turned into a closed announcement. I was tempted to quote the whole thing and go "I agree".
Just to piss him off, you understand.
It's surprising what a little bit of power will do to some people. Honestly, have you got nothing better to do than act like an over-eager nursery-school teacher trying to stop a few little kids having a bit of fun?
When the Metropollers posts on TVF are piss-takes - the recent death stuff for example - they should have been deleted and forgotten about.
It's nothing to be proud of you know... "I'm a moderator on a forum which religiously charts BBC News 24's presenter pairings..." Put that on your CV and you'll be laughed out of the building.
TVF has rapidly become a parody of itself... the fact that some obsessive individuals, some mentally disturbed ones and some other questionable characters can post rubbish day in day out, and then us normal people get penalised because our threads aren't "TV-pres" related... I despair sometimes. If TVF is about presentation, programming, then I don't see why it can't be about personalities too.
Carol Barnes and Brian Wilde died... yet we weren't allowed to talk about it....why the fuck not? I'm an avid Porridge fan and if I can't mention that on a TV forum then there's something majorly wrong.
We've had arguments about "generic" and "specific" threads, arguments about spelling mistakes and arguments about mocks, fonts and library music. The same ones going round and round and round.
And now an old idea has been ressurected. Anyone getting deja vu?
