I'm sorry, but I just cannot agree with this overly simplistic view that because somebody's dead they have to have been wonderful.
Let's take somebody that, probably, most of us would agree wasn't particularly nice, Adolf Hitler.
Would we all say the sort of wonderful things about him in his obituary thread that we appear to think we need to say about some average television actor?
This is the crux of the matter, as far as I'm concerned; and the crux that requires separate threads for separate people.

Strange i was talking to Father Paul the other day and we were talking about funerals. One of the funerals he officiated he was discussing the service with the deceased son. Father Paul was going to say something along the lines of him being a good husband and father and the son said " please no, he was a lousy husband who beat my mother and a lousy father who beat us everytime he came home drunk, he was a horrible man, so please don't make him out to be a saint in the service".

The thread's been locked, now, since the middle of the afternoon.
Are we to take it that the sadministrator is going to take his usual elongated length of time before the discussion of this matter can continue?
I assume you'll just ban me if I dare to start another thread in the interim, so might I suggest that you utilise your new found powers to expedite the situation?
Like you Nick, I found both threads pointless, but its stupid to ban them outright and its stupid to have a forum for them, the only way I can see is to a) let them slip down and be forgotten or b) lock them.
You are quite right that its not the place for such threads and in my mind thats why it was locked, not because of the resulting discussion.
