The idea that this announcement will be some unforgettable, mindblowing moment (a day 'that you'll never forget'? Really?!) is another example of Apple disappearing up its own arse with self-important hyperbole;
Much like:

This changes everything. Again.

Yeah, whoopee.

Actually, I still don't, I just watch the videos on YouTube.

This is a great day for me, now I can own high-quality versions of the songs and listen to them on the go on my iPod.

You could have done that anyway by buying the cds.

Getting the CD takes time, postage and packaging costs, and then you have to store them somewhere because you won't use them now you've imported them to your computer.

You could have wandered into any record shop for the last 20 years and bought them in a trice.

I'm all for a bit of instant gratification, but as 'reasons for not purchasing an album' goes, that was pretty feeble.

Nonetheless I'm glad you'll enjoy them. There's some special music in there.

Finding somewhere to put a CD is always tricky.

I did have them on tape, and I was going to buy the CDs (don't get me wrong I prefer CDs to MP3s most of time) but the thing is I haven't had much time to listen to music but now that I do I can get around to buying these remastered, and I don't really want to buy all of these CDs I'll never use again. To me it's easier to buy the digital copies because of the many albums of truly classic and inspirational work without having big box sets to find somewhere to store (seeing as the shelf that holds my CDs is jampacked).
